Deep Vision, in partnership with Wake Engineering, are pleased to announce a successful bid on a Eureka project entitled An Unmanned Aerial Vehicle for Autonomous Maritime Search and Rescue. Deep Vision will provide a UAV mounted sensor package to identify and locate people lost at sea. Wake Engineering are a Spanish firm who produce the Fulmar, a fixed-wing UAV used for deployment on the project.
"One of the most formidable challenges in sea-based search and rescue efforts lies in visually identifying survivors. The vastness of the maritime environment, coupled with visual fatigue and the difficulty of discerning small targets against a shifting sea background, can lead to human errors during surveillance missions, whether conducted from ships or aircraft."

This project aims to address to this problem through the use of UAVs equipped with machine learning software. This solution has the potential to be cost-effective, accurate, and scalable, ultimately resulting in reduced rescue times and saved lives.
